At 95, Thelma Keeps Giving!

“Keeping busy in life” is Thelma Jackson’s motto; she’s a veteran DARTS’ supporter and volunteer. She's been connected with DARTS for over 30 years.  At 95 years young, Thelma keeps herself busy with her hobbies and volunteer visiting! That’s right, each week Thelma visits Phoebe, a DARTS service user. Two years ago, Thelma was matched with Phoebe, who spends much of her time in her home because of declining health.

Thelma knows Phoebe appreciates having some company and playing a competitive game of Scrabble.  It keeps their minds sharp!  If there are any words to be questioned, a large-print Scrabble dictionary puts any challenges to rest.

Volunteering began for Thelma shortly after her husband passed away.  For many years, she was a volunteer for Little Sisters of the Poor and later became a DARTS volunteer.  Thelma is also active in her church, helping lead the Rosary for residents at a care facility in South St. Paul.

When Thelma knows someone is looking for a place to volunteer, she recommends DARTS.  “I think it’s a wonderful organization. You can always find something interesting to do, and I know the clients really appreciate what you do for them.”
