Driver Training Classes

Need to get STS certified? Need to renew your certification?

DARTS offers professional driver training classes for specialized vehicle operators. All courses offered meet state requirements and are instructed by a state certified trainer.

DARTS Driver Training Classes:

Defensive Driving - A classroom program that highlights the differences between a regular sedan and high profile vehicles and reinforces safe driving habits. (4 hours) Required for STS Certification.

Maltreatment Awareness - A classroom program that acquaints staff with Minnesota statutes derived from Maltreatment of Minors Act (MOMA) and Vulnerable Adults Act (VAA). (4 hours) Required for STS Certification.

Passenger Assistance I and II - A classroom and hands on program that teaches drivers how to effectively assist and communicate with passengers who are elderly or who have disabilities. (8 hours) Required for STS Certification.

Driver Refreshers Classes - Recommended to be taken every two years, this class reviews all the essentials of the above courses. Qualifies for STS Recertification. (8 hours) Required for STS Certification.  

First Aid Training - A classroom and hands-on program instructed by a certified Red Cross First Aid, AED and CPR Instructor. Required (4 hours) for STS certification.

Registration Requirements and Confirmations:

You must register at a minimum of two week prior to the training date and provide the following:

  1. Organization, Driver name and Identification
  2. Payment (Cash, Check and Credit card) American Express, Discover, Master Card or Visa. (We require a 72-hour (3 business days) cancellation notice for a full refund. In the event that DARTS must cancel your training session, you will be refunded your full payment.)

*STS (Special Transportation Services) certification requires 20 hours of classroom training consisting of Passenger Assistance One & Two (8 hours), Defensive Driving (4 hours), Maltreatment Awareness (4 hours) and First Aid (4 hours), as well as 60 hours of behind-the-wheel training.
